Leigh Ann Spell Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Leigh Ann Spell has worked as a speech-language pathologist and professor for over 30 years. She is originally from Ohio, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy from Bowling Green State University. After traveling to Belgium for six months as part of a cultural exchange program, she completed her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of South Carolina. Deciding to make South Carolina her home, she worked clinically for several years before returning to the University of South Carolina to obtain her doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Leigh Ann has worked in a variety of settings with both children and adults. After obtaining her doctoral degree, she was a professor for 16 years at Columbia College and has been doing research and teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina since then. Her background includes teaching in the Sookmyung International Summer Program in Seoul, South Korea, and being very involved with the Columbia Council for Internationals and the University of South Carolina English Program for Internationals. Her specialty areas include accent modification, communication coaching, and working with adults with aphasia and other neurological communication/cognitive disorders.

Leigh Ann is licensed in South Carolina and has her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She holds a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate and a Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language (P-ESL) Certificate. In her spare time, Leigh Ann enjoys travel, yoga, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
