How can I tell if my child has a problem with receptive or expressive language?

Receptive and expressive language disorders are a type of communication disorder. A child with a receptive language disorder may have difficulty understanding or processing words. A child with an expressive language disorder may have difficulty with expressing meaning or messages to others. It is also possible for children to have both kinds of disorders, called mixed receptive-expressive disorder.

The best treatment for a child with a language disorder is speech-language therapy.

Receptive and expressive language disorders can affect a child’s ability to communicate, learn, and play with others. For this reason, it’s essential to get treatment as soon as the problem is discovered.

Online Evaluations & Treatment From the Comfort of Your Home

THOROUGH ASSESSMENT

After your free introductory call, your child’s speech therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment by a skilled speech-language pathologist (SLP) who is highly trained to identify speech and language issues in children.

CUSTOMIZED GOAL & PLAN

At Connected Speech Pathology, we believe that goals should be centered around your child and their communication needs. An individualized treatment plan for addressing your child’s specific language issues will be created.

EFFECTIVE TREATMENT

Since each child is unique and will respond differently to therapy methods, your child’s therapist will create a treatment program tailor-made for your child’s needs and adapt therapy as needed.

  • We have a variety of tools that we can use to identify your child’s specific areas of need. They include standardized and informal tests and an assessment of the mouth’s physical structure and muscles used for speech. Speech-language evaluations may consist of reviewing educational and medical history, clinical observation, and interviews with caregivers. With a proper diagnosis, your child can receive targeted speech therapy to reduce or eliminate communication issues.

  • Treatment goals will be set by your speech-language pathologist to create meaningful outcomes that achieve real-life improvement. Several of our therapists have teaching certificates. We understand the best, most engaging ways to work with children of all ages.

  • Our speech therapists at Connected Speech Pathology hold master’s degrees in communication sciences and have completed rigorous post-graduate training to provide the best therapy methods available. Our nationally certified team of speech-language pathologists are experts in early childhood communication issues and have a strong understanding of the research on various effective therapy techniques.

Fees start at $75 per session, depending on each meeting’s length in 30, 45, or 60-minute increments. We are a private pay practice and do not accept insurance.
